The Sugar Loaf ‘Otto’ Syrah is named after Kate's second child, Otto – our little winemaker in training. This wine is a symbol of the countless adventures and discoveries that lie ahead.
Winemaker’s Comment:
Sourced from a small planting on our Estate vineyard, this Syrah is a labour of love, from grape to bottle. The 2023 vintage provided ideal growing conditions, with balanced warmth and sunlight that imparted rich flavours while preserving the wine's freshness. Harvested at perfect sugar levels in late March, the wine was fermented in an open-top cuvée for three weeks, then gently hand-pressed into French oak barrels to age for 11 months.
The 2023 ‘Otto’ Syrah is a true statement piece. Its aroma boasts red fruits, black and white pepper, with notes of cigar smoke and leather. The palate reveals luscious red berries, Christmas spice, and silky tannins that contribute to its velvety body and elegant structure. The finish lingers, leaving hints of pepper and spice, making it the perfect pairing for roast meats and vegetables.
